PMI (Project Management Institute) is a Not-for-Profit Professional Association. Primary goal of PMI is to advance the practice, science and profession of project management throughout the world in a conscientious and proactive manner so that organizations everywhere will embrace, value and utilize project management-and then attribute their successes to it. It was founded in 1969 by working project mangers and has more than 420,000 members and credential holders till Dec 2008. Global standards are crucial to the project management profession. Standards ensure a basic project management framework is applied consistently worldwide. It has 11 global standards (including Program and Portfolio Management) and more than 2 million copies of “A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge(PMBOK® Guide) is in Circulation. Who could be the members of this association? All the professional project managers, aspiring project managers and associate managers could be its members. PMI Membership supports and encourages all project professionals to pursue a new balance of global and local best practices, relationship building and sharing resources.It has more than 250 chapters in over 70 countries. What is the fee structure for PMI membership? The annual membership fee for professionals is US$ 129 PLUS PMI Karachi chapter’s fee of US$ 20 per annum. Any PMI KPC member can be elected / nominated to become a board member.However he / she has to be in the PMI KPC folds for at least one year as a volunteer member and is a member of PMI KPC in good standing . What does “Good Standing” mean? It means that the member has fully paid his / her dues to both PMI and PMI KPC. Does PMI KPC provide job opportunities to professional PMPs? Yes and No. PMI KPC is not a job provider; however it advises its members from time to time if there is a job opportunity in its members’ companies. We intend to formally launch a Job Portal for its members in near future. The purpose is not to earn money but to facilitate its members. What is the experience of the board members and the instructors who conducts various courses at PMI KPC? PMI KPC has the largest pool of professionals who find time from their jobs to give lectures on various topics of project management. The Board of directors is composed of the industry veteran who has a combined experience of 150 years of practical implementation of project management in their respective companies. No other REP or chapter boasts of such qualified staff in its bank. REP (Registered education provider) is a body which is recognized by PMI, USA as qualified for teaching the PMI methodology of project management. A chapter by virtue of its existence and affiliation to PMI has the privilege of REP by default.
